H.248 is the ITU-T (International Telecommunications Union-Telecommunication Standardization Sector) specified MGCP (Media Gateway Control Protocol). It has been specified in conjunction with the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). H.248 employs ASN.1 (Abstract Syntax Notation 1) were as the IETF version of MGCP titled MEGACO (Media Gateway Control) employs a text based version of the protocol.
